Papa Jesus and Ninong Santa

one day...

pre-Christmas thoughts

ok. it's just 4 days before Christmas. i don't have any plans. i think about a lot of things. i have a lot of ideas and issues running through my mind. let me enumerate and expound on some of them.

should i shop for this Christmas? well, as we all know, a lot of people right now are being materialistic about Christmas. and i'm a little bit guilty about that. but it's not for me, i'm thinking if i'm still gonna buy gifts for my parents and siblings. though i still don't have any idea what to give them this year. last year, i gave my sister a badminton racket which she wished/asked from me which she still haven't used a single time, i gave my brother a watch which he only wore a few months, i gave my father a rubber shoes which he sometimes wear, and i gave my mom a computer chair (i shared with my bro), and all of these i bought on 24th of December. gee, i am still undecided.

gifts for inaanaks, i really never had any idea on what gifts to give for my inaanaks, puro naman pamangkin ko yung mga yun.. as always, i just give them money, but does it really matter to them? should i really give something? well, that's not the role of being ninongs/ninangs, but reality check, they expect you to "give" something... for the "spirit" of Christmas. but hey, that's not it. you should know what it is.

family reunion, what will happen now? will there be one? sa father side, i know, there would be... sa mother side??? hmmm... sana, nagkaron kasi ng issues months ago with my mom and my sick lola. the problem is with my sick, "im-always-right" lola... i haven't seen her since the issue happened... how bad of me... well, i think, believe and hopes very much that there would be a reunion. as always, we have a noche buena at my lola's house/boarding house. my cousins, aunts, uncles, etc would come early Christmas morning from Pagsanjan, then we'll have a party buong madaling araw. foods, kwentuhan, kantahan, sayawan, gift-giving, pila-pila sa bigay-bigay, laro, etc. then they would leave early morning, around 5am to 7am to go back to Pagsanjan to be with their other relatiives (other side).. then my parents and me and my siblings would go to LB. for another family reunion..

problem set, we have a problem set in one of our Masteral Subjects, good thing the other one did not make it to give us another one, the classes were cancelled so we did not meet. geesh, i'm still not in the mood of doing such.

gala/bakasyon, gusto kong gumala, magliwaliw, magbakasyon, either mag-isa, or may kasamang pinsa, barkada, family and the likes. basta, gusto kong mag-unwind. gusto ko san mag-tagaytay or basta out-of-laguna... hayy, maka-experience naman ng kakaiba, mag-hotel or whatsoever.. hayyy... i need a break..

reasearch, i had some issues with the research team, basta nawala ako sa focus gumawa, nawalan ako ng interest for some time, parang hindi aoko ganun kahanda, napagalitan/napagsabihan na ako, fine! handa naman ako dun, it's my fault. that's it.

officemates, i miss them, i miss playing trumps with them, i actually bought a deck of cards the last time we were together from festi, and we played inside the van, mga adik kasi... grabe, super miss ko na sila... wala pa akong gifts for therm, last year, i gave keychains, mickey/minnie mouse keychains, mahilig ako sa keychains, mickey.minnie dahil year of the rat, ngayon wala pa ako maisip... nadagdagan pa sila... hehe..

and a lot more... tinatamad na ako mag-isip at magtype, tapos na ang CSI.. ciao!

Though, through, plough, or dough, or cough?

If you can pronounce correctly every word in this poem, you will be speaking English better than 90% of the native English speakers in the world. After trying the verses, a Frenchman said he'd prefer six months of hard labour to reading six lines aloud. Try them yourself.

Dearest creature in creation,
Study English pronunciation.
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse, and worse.
I will keep you, Suzy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye, your dress will tear.
So shall I! Oh hear my prayer.
Just compare heart, beard, and heard,
Dies and diet, lord and word,
Sword and sward, retain and Britain.
(Mind the latter, how it's written.)
Now I surely will not plague you
With such words as plaque and ague.
But be careful how you speak:
Say break and steak, but bleak and streak;
Cloven, oven, how and low,
Script, receipt, show, poem, and toe.
Hear me say, devoid of trickery,
Daughter, laughter, and Terpsichore,
Typhoid, measles, topsails, aisles,
Exiles, similes, and reviles;
Scholar, vicar, and cigar,
Solar, mica, war and far;
One, anemone, Balmoral,
Kitchen, lichen, laundry, laurel;
Gertrude, German, wind and mind,
Scene, Melpomene, mankind.
Billet does not rhyme with ballet,
Bouquet, wallet, mallet, chalet.
Blood and flood are not like food,
Nor is mould like should and would.
Viscous, viscount, load and broad,
Toward, to forward, to reward.
And your pronunciation's OK
When you correctly say croquet,
Rounded, wounded, grieve and sieve,
Friend and fiend, alive and live.
Ivy, privy, famous; clamour
And enamour rhyme with hammer.
River, rival, tomb, bomb, comb,
Doll and roll and some and home.
Stranger does not rhyme with anger,
Neither does devour with clangour.
Souls but foul, haunt but aunt,
Font, front, wont, want, grand, and grant,
Shoes, goes, does. Now first say finger,
And then singer, ginger, linger,
Real, zeal, mauve, gauze, gouge and gauge,
Marriage, foliage, mirage, and age.
Query does not rhyme with very,
Nor does fury sound like bury.
Dost, lost, post and doth, cloth, loth.
Job, nob, bosom, transom, oath.
Though the differences seem little,
We say actual but victual.
Refer does not rhyme with deafer.
Foeffer does, and zephyr, heifer.
Mint, pint, senate and sedate;
Dull, bull, and George ate late.
Scenic, Arabic, Pacific,
Science, conscience, scientific.
Liberty, library, heave and heaven,
Rachel, ache, moustache, eleven.
We say hallowed, but allowed,
People, leopard, towed, but vowed.
Mark the differences, moreover,
Between mover, cover, clover;
Leeches, breeches, wise, precise,
Chalice, but police and lice;
Camel, constable, unstable,
Principle, disciple, label.
Petal, panel, and canal,
Wait, surprise, plait, promise, pal.
Worm and storm, chaise, chaos, chair,
Senator, spectator, mayor.
Tour, but our and succour, four.
Gas, alas, and Arkansas.
Sea, idea, Korea, area,
Psalm, Maria, but malaria.
Youth, south, southern, cleanse and clean.
Doctrine, turpentine, marine.
Compare alien with Italian,
Dandelion and battalion.
Sally with ally, yea, ye,
Eye, I, ay, aye, whey, and key.
Say aver, but ever, fever,
Neither, leisure, skein, deceiver.
Heron, granary, canary.
Crevice and device and aerie.
Face, but preface, not efface.
Phlegm, phlegmatic, ass, glass, bass.
Large, but target, gin, give, verging,
Ought, out, joust and scour, scourging.
Ear, but earn and wear and tear
Do not rhyme with here but ere.
Seven is right, but so is even,
Hyphen, roughen, nephew Stephen,
Monkey, donkey, Turk and jerk,
Ask, grasp, wasp, and cork and work.
Pronunciation (think of Psyche!)
Is a paling stout and spikey?
Won't it make you lose your wits,
Writing groats and saying grits?
It's a dark abyss or tunnel:
Strewn with stones, stowed, solace, gunwale,
Islington and Isle of Wight,
Housewife, verdict and indict.
Finally, which rhymes with enough,
Though, through, plough, or dough, or cough?
Hiccough has the sound of cup.
My advice is to give up!!!

the corrupt - gloria pa ha...

basta may "gloria ______ national high" yata... basta gloria nga yun!

now, here's whate happened...

after this school has registered, the coach asked for another copy of the provisionary receipt for he will use and present it to their municipal hall (that's what he said)

we told him that he should wait because we don't know if there will be an extra copy of the provisionary receipt, he agreed though...

now the exam started, then he came back to as for the provisionary receipt, but he added something to his statement:

"WAG NYO NA LANG LAGYAN NG AMOUNT PAID YUNG RESIBO, PUMAYAG NAMAN YUNG COORDINATOR"

then the resgistration assistant in charge of the receipts and money didn't believe him, (she felt,and believed that the coaches intention is not good)

so she went to the regional coordinator to ask, but the regional coordinator only said

"WE WOULD GIVE YOU ANOTHER COPY OF THE PROVISIONARY RECEIPT WITH THE PAID AMOUNT WRITTEN"

then they(RA, COACH) went out to arrange the triplicate copy, then the coach still insisted,

"WAG MO NANG LAGYAN"

the RA said, in sarcastic way

"AYAN SIR, FOUR HUNDRED PESOS only!" then she gave the receipt..

oh what a corrupt person! grrrrrrrrr...

___

another event, the CERTIFICATE OF APPEARANCE

the same person from the same school (gloria)

Coach: "PAKI GAWAN MO NAMAN YUNG PRINCIPAL NAMIN"

RA(assigned in COA): "NASAN PO YUNG PRINCIPAL???"

C: "AY WALA PO"

RA:"HINDI PO PWEDE KUNG WALA SILA"
(in her mind, and obviously, "cert of APPEARANCE nga eh!")

grabe talaga!!!

nakakainis talaga sya!!!

the horrendous take home exam and the aftermath

yeah

you read it right

we just had a horrendous take home exam in our GradSchool subject *math213*

and i really do believe that take home exam is NOT a good idea

it's really hard...

waaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

haha

and oh! we were just given 24 hours to finish the exam

waaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

goodluck sa amin! goodluck sa akin!!!!!!!!!!

AFTER ng submission ng exam,

we had a GREAT LUNCH, sagot ni Sir Charles at Sir Herbert yung food and drinks, si Ma'am Jane naman sa dessert na cake (mocha roll)

ang orders namin ay puro combo

busog talaga...

(10 tao yata kaming may usapan)

hehehe...

WHAT A DAY!!!

tomorrow PMO naman!

Philippine Mathematical Olympiad... tuloy kahit may sked ng brownout...

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

time to sleep... kulang pa ang tulog ko kanina dahil sa exam... wahehe...

math 17 cu1 final exam (1st0809)

I just finished checking the final exams of my math 17 class for this semester

19 out of 36 (who took the exam) PASSED

but its not the determining factor whether the student passed or failed in my class.

it's just 30% of their final grade...

some of them actually need a negative score just to pass.. haha..

now, let me go back to the exam...

too bad, the highest in my class is 90/100

whom i did not expect to be top1 in the finals... well, there are just other students who i think could get higher than that..

but NO! hehe..
the students i expected to be on top, just became careless in the exam.

they got 89, 88.5, 88... funny for me... haha...

now, the person who got the highest score in my class is the first one to submit his paper...

and also, I already finished the grades in math17cu1!!!!

here's the tally of grades:

1.00 ===== 2
1.25 ===== 5
1.50 ===== 3
1.75 ===== 2
2.00 ===== 3
2.25 ===== 3
2.50 ===== 4
2.75 ===== 3

3.00 ===== 6

4.00 ===== 4

5.00 ===== 2 (1 is due to excessive absences/stopped attending classes)

Total ........ 37

MATHEMATICAL HOROSCOPE

[just try to relate to a normal horoscope]

AREAS (Mar 21-Apr 19)

Today a close friend who has let down her boundaries will have a dilemma. Though you have several axes to grind with her, you should not let this be a factor. If she can count on you, you will get closure.

E-BAR (Sep 23-Oct 22)

Today you will intersect a radical from class, a tan gent of average height. He will be a cute guy, but obtuse. Help him by reading his abstract, so he can get his degree and reach his proper rank.

TORUS (Apr 20-May 20)

Today you will be in your prime. A clique of friends will give you a ring and hold an enjoyable function. You will feel connected to this circle of friends, and will be the center of attention.

SCORE-PI-O (Oct 23 - Nov 21)

You have reached a critical point in your life. You are on edge and have about reached your limit. This minor identity crisis has kept you in knots for some time. Seek a group of solid friends to set things right.

M and I (May 21-Jun 21)

Today you will get a visit from an ex, though you won't know why. The jerk is still square, a real number, quite a character. He will feed you a line about being a pair again, and this will cause an argument, making you tensor and tensor.

SLANTED-AREAS (Nov 22-Dec 21)

Today you should stay in bed and catch some Z's. Stay horizontal and sleep like a log. This complete lack of activity will mean a minimum of stress, but it is also a product of the power you have.

ANSWER (Jun 22-Jul 22)

Don't commute today. If you go by plane, the floor will drop out. If your mode is by car, you will hit a field of trees in the median. Even walking on your own digits will result in a funeral plot.

CAPRI-CHORD (Dec 22-Jan 19)

This period of your life will be similar to one year ago, when your life was simple and ordered. It is integral that you be careful, lest you do commit an improper error. Look for a sign, but stick to your roots.

E-O (Jul 23-Aug 22)

Today life will throw you a curve. You and a loved one will diverge, and the distance will feel empty. Though you will see her less, her existence proves your perfect friendship is in a separate category. Don't let it make a difference.

A-SQUARY-PLUS (Jan 20-Feb 18)

Keep an open mind today. Stop projecting and admit the magnitude of your problems for a second. If you are analytic, the origin of your exact difficulty will soon be clear, and your troubles will decrease by half.

ERGO (Aug 23-Sep 22)

On the surface, today will seem like an irrational day, continuously full of problems. The constant chaos will be far from ideal. But the day will be less negative and more normal than it first appears. Stay to your regular routine and minimize variation.

PI-CEES (Feb 19-Mar 20)

Today will be an odd day. You will face many complex problems, all equally frustrating. But you will maximize your joy by finding value in all of them, and it will turn out to be a fine day.

VENGEANCE IS NOT OURS IT’S GOD’S

Alms, alms, alms. Spare me a piece of bread. Spare me your mercy. I am a child so young, so thin, and so ragged.

Why are you staring at me? With my eyes I cannot see but I know that you are all staring at me. Why are you whispering to one another? Why? Do you know my mother? Do you know my father? Did you know me five years ago? Yes, five years of bitterness have passed. I can still remember the vast happiness mother and I shared with each other. We were very happy indeed.

Suddenly, five loud knocks were heard on the door and a deep silence ensued. Did the cruel Nippon’s discover our peaceful home? Mother ran to Father’s side pleading. “Please, Luis, hide in the cellar, there in the cellar where they cannot find you,” I pulled my father’s arm but he did not move. It seemed as though his feet were glued to the floor.

The door went “bang” and before us five ugly beasts came barging in. “Are you Captain Luis Santos?” roared the ugliest of them all. “Yes,” said my father. “You are under arrest,” said one of the beasts. They pulled father roughly away from us. Father was not given a chance to bid us goodbye.
We followed them mile after mile. We were hungry and thirsty. We saw group of Japanese eating. Oh, how our mouths watered seeing the delicious fruits they were eating.

Then suddenly, we heard a voice call, “Consuelo. . . . Oscar. . . . Consuelo. . . . Oscar. . . . Consuelo. . . . Oscar. . . .” we ran towards the direction of the voice, but it was too late. We saw father hanging on a tree. . . . dead. Oh, it was terrible. He had been badly beaten before he died. . . . and I cried vengeance, vengeance, vengeance! Everything went black. The next thing I knew I was nursing my poor invalid mother.

One day, we heard the church bell ringing “ding-dong, ding-dong!” It was a sign for us to find a shelter in our hide-out, but I could not leave my invalid mother, I tried to show her the way to the hide-out. Suddenly, bombs started falling; airplanes were roaring overhead, canyons were firing from everywhere. “Boom, boom, boom, boom!” Mother was hit. Her legs were shattered into pieces. I took her gently in my arms and cried, “I’ll have vengeance, vengeance!” “No, Oscar. Vengeance, it’s God’s,” said mother. But I cried out vengeance. I was like a pent-up volcano. “Vengeance is mine not the Lord’s”. “No, Oscar. Vengeance is not ours, it’s God’s” these were the words from my mother before she died. Mother was dead and I was blind. Vengeance is not ours? To forgive is divine but vengeance is sweeter.

That was five years ago, five years. . . .
Alms, alms, alms. Spare me a piece of bread. Spare me your mercy. I am a child so young, so thin, and so ragged. Vengeance is not ours, it’s God’s. . . . It’s. . . . God’s. . It's...

Invitation to the 2008 National Symposium on Science and Technology

In conjunction with the Loyalty Day celebrations, the University is hosting the First PCASTRD National Symposium on Science and Technology (NSST 2008) with the theme “Harnessing the Human Capital for Innovation in S&T.” The Symposium, which will be held on October 8-9, 2008 at the SEARCA Building, offers an opportunity for the dissemination of the vision of the National Innovation Strategy to a wider audience including the academe such as UPLB, and professional and scientific organizations, to generate active participation and support from as many sectors as possible and ensure its success. The NSST 2008 provides a venue for healthy discussions, not only about the innovation plan but about the state of S&T in general, and the importance of harnessing the human capital in advancing S&T in the country.

The Symposium adopts this theme as it also gathers the scholar-graduates of the PCASTRD HRDP who have become scientists and professionals in their respective fields. These scholars can serve as a strong resource base for the innovation of new S&T products and ideas through collaborative research, and can be tapped for other professional endeavors in support of the various programs of PCASTRD such as graduate mentoring and networking. This assembly of scholar-graduates of PCASTRD aims to produce an action agenda that details the major thrusts in collaborative research in pure and applied science and mathematics. The meeting will also define other
relevant activities for the professional advancement of its members.

The exhibits and the plenary and parallel sessions of the Symposium are open to the public, while special invitation is given to all current and former scholars of the PCASTRD Human Resource Development
Program. There will be no registration fee but interested participants are requested to e-mail Dr. Virgilio Sison (IMSP) at vpsison@uplb.edu.ph and/or Ms. Aileen N. Bayot (BIOTECH) at aileenbayot@gmail.com to indicate their intention to attend.

understanding STRESS

(a fried emailed this to me)

O, bakit ka na naman na-i-istress? Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed?
It's important to understand stress before we can effectively manage it
Eustress and Distress.
Eustress is positive stress.
when they are doing their exercises.
Kapag hindi sila nagpahinga, the stressed muscles will be injured.
When injury happens, yan ang distress .
Distress is the negative side of stress.
Famous author and inspirational speaker,
Dr. John Maxwell has the following suggestions:
Don't be overly sensitive to criticism .
So when you receive criticisms , take it constructively kung sensible ang criticism.
If you think the criticism is not objective , huwag na lang pansinin at ng hindi ka ma-distress .
Don't take too much pride in your achievements .
Minsan nga our achievements hinder us from growing and learning
Don't harbor jealousy over the achievement of others .
Instead of being jealous or envious ,
let's learn to rejoice in the successes of others.
Don't focus on your weaknesses and inadequacies .
Ang sugat kapag mas lalo mong ginalaw mas lalong lalala at baka maimpeksyon.
The more you focus on your weaknesses and inadequacies
the bigger the tendency of wallowing in self-pity .
While it is important to acknowledge your inadequacies,
it is helpful to focus on your strengths and capabilities .

One effective way of fighting distress is by counting our blessings -
the good things which life brings.
When we have grateful hearts,
we will always be reminded that we are too blessed to be stressed!
